The Ria de Alvor boardwalk is a must-see for nature lovers during a stay in the Algarve, Portugal. This 3 km wooden walkway takes you through the Ria de Alvor nature reserve, a unique ecosystem classified as Natura 2000. As you stroll along this easily accessible path, you can admire the beauty of the landscapes between lagoon, salt marshes, dunes and beaches. The Ria de Alvor is home to an exceptional biodiversity with many species of birds, including flamingos, waders and passerines. The boardwalk offers superb viewpoints over the estuary and the ocean. You can take a break in the rest areas and lookouts along the way. At the end of the boardwalk, a small white and green lighthouse marks the meeting point between the lagoon and the Atlantic.The best time to walk the boardwalk is in spring or autumn. Avoid the hottest hours in summer and bring water. From Alvor, follow the signs to Praia de Alvor where you will find a parking lot at the entrance of the boardwalk.After this beautiful walk, take a tour of the charming village of Alvor, a typical old fishing port of the Algarve. Enjoy a delicious grilled fish in one of the local restaurants.
